The VR program was established to provide children and adolescents in our care with the opportunity to establish and experience supportive and helping relationship with volunteers in the community. The Program offers back the opportunity to participate in his life in a meaningful way. Most boys in the Program do not have family members available for visitation and need socialization experiences in the community. Over the years, dozens of our students have benefitted from their experiences forming positive relationships with community members.
Applicants should be a positive role model for our youth and have the personal qualities that will assist in developing positive relationships. In addition to having the desire to serve as a role model and share their time and interests, a Visiting Resource is also required to
All Visiting Resource Applicants are required to complete an initial application for participating. This application includes basic information about the Visiting Resource including:
- Their interest in becoming a Visiting Resource
- Availability
- Household Composition and Activities
- Prior Volunteer experience
- Experience with similar populations of characteristics similar to service population Harmony Hill School serves
- A description of Household rules, including expectations for behaviors that are not tolerated within the home
- Preferences for assignment
- Personal References
Once an application is received it is screened by the Visiting Resource Coordinator. Prior to assignment, the following must be completed:
- DCYF Clearance for all household members over the age of 18
- Criminal Record Clearance (National and Local) for all household members over the age of 18 through the State of Rhode Island
- A Home Visit and Household interview
- Verification of References provided in application
- Complete motor vehicle records release forms (3 forms) and submitting of a copy of a valid driver's license, automobile registration, and automobile liability insurance
